Developing Norm No. 6

Developing Norm No. 6 is a type specimen book for Norm No. 6, the first release in the Norm collection, an ongoing study of the modern grotesque as a visual phenomenon.

The book is composed entirely in Norm No. 6, with every text and image designed to reveal the typeface through use. Norm No. 6 has a relaxed silhouette and deliberate irregularities. Its finials are shaved at an angle rather than cut parallel to the baseline, while tails and descenders gently extend and curve. Combined with slightly narrow character widths, these details create a soft and fluid texture with a subtle sense of friction.

Printed on highly smooth coated paper with black ink and a specially mixed spot colour, the book was designed to reproduce the character of the typeface with clarity. Developing Norm No. 6 functions both as a practical type specimen and as a conceptual publication in its own right.
